![]() ITunes uses Core Audio, just as every software in the OS X/iOS domain do. PS: Then try DSD files natively thru this player.Īudirvana Plus | The Sound of your Dreams I am a recording / mastering engineer of 20 years and I try to only get excited when I simply cannot shake something no matter how hard I try. Make sure you go into Preferences->Audio System and after selecting your DAC, click on "Direct Mode" which will bypass Core Audio and ensure nothing else can alter the playback bits and SR. Please someone with a decent USB DAC / Monitors try this software and tell me I am tripping! I thought I knew the merits of my DAC2 but this has made me come to a whole new level of appreciation. I have also listened to a ton of high resolution tracks purchased from HDTracks with stunning results. Regardless of the software features (iOS remote, iTunes integration, native DSD, etc), I am currently playing back 24 bit 96 kHz mixes that I have done over the years thru the SAME benchmark DAC-2 that I would use thru iTunes (etc), and the mixes sound deeper, tighter, wider, etc. Sorry if there are any grammatical or other errors, english is not my native language.Has anyone tried this hires Mac player? It is blowing my mind as I type this. No subscriptions, 60$ price.īest for big library of local music files - ROON. But also you should check Audirvana Studio with your gear - it may sound best for you.īest price - Jriver. Don't use it for listening.īest sound quality - Jriver for sure with "no dithering" option or "bit-exact dithering" with no DSP enabled. Wasapi Exclsuive implementation doesn't help - it still sounds really bad. +- No streaming services integration (but you can stream Tidal and Qobuz via DLNA from your phone with no quality loss) + One-time purchase, in total more affordable than ROON and Audirvana Studio + This is not only audio player, but also a video player Jriver costs $79.98 for master license (valid for Windows, Mac, and Linux) or $59.98 for only Windows/Mac/Linux license. The worst part is that it doesn't support MQA, but even without it I got better sound with my "No MQA" DAC. Some tracks sounded too harsh with TPDF dithering, so this is not an option I would advice to use.īut "no dithering" or "bit-exact dithering" with no DSP enabled (which is the same as "no dithering") - that's a completely different conversation. TPDF dithering is apllying even when no DSP enabled.įirst of all I will say about TPDF dithering. Jriver has 3 options - "no dithering", "bit-exact dithering" and "TPDF dithering".īit-exact dithering is applying when you enable DSP, so with non DSP enabled it should sound the same as with "no dithering" option. What is interesting is that you can change or disable internal dithering. The sound will not be affected by the phone, it will just send the URL link of the song to Jriver. Jriver doesn't have Tidal integration, but you can stream Tidal via DLNA + mconnect app (ios) or bubleupnp (android). The visuals is the worst among these 3 players. Subscription price model, but more affordable than ROON though +- DSP is not included with Audirvana Studio installer, but you can add it with plugins. Result depends on your gear and your ears, but Audirvana is doing something with audio stream for sure. Price - 6.99$ monthly or 69.99$ for year. You must check this out and decide on your own, the sound is pretty much specific, but interesting. Separation of instruments more distinguishable, but audio scene is like moved further from listener. But I definetely hear that Audirvana is doing something with the sound, like dithering or something. In terms of sound quality I found it better than ROON - the sound is crisper. Not best sound (especially without DSP). + ROON recommendations based on entire listening history (also works with your local files), that's awesome In total - I like how it looks, but don't like how it sounds + it can be too expensive for what it offers, especially if you don't have big library of local music files. And don't forget that ROON is an expensive software - 12.99$ billed monthly or 9.99$ per month billed annually. Maybe it's because ROON core wasn't installed on separate PC, but we have what we have. The biggest complain - music sounds a little muddy or too smooth. I readed many enthusiastic reviews about ROON and I didn't found something exceptional in terms of sound quality when tested it with my gear. But we are testing pure sound quality here without any DSP.Īnd result is imperfect surprisingly. I liked how it looks and it has some really powerful DSP, so you can configure sound to your preferences. Testing gear: Rotel RC-1590 preamp + Rotel RB-1590 amp + Polk Audio RTi A9 tower speakers. Recently tested 3 audio software players: ROON, Audirvana Studio and Jriver.
